SF: WHO?!

"I am curious to see/hear/read who everyone takes their inspiration from - an artist of traditional media, multimedia, craft world, living or dead. Who would we like to have the chance to meet and speak with, or to thank for inspiring us? "  ~ Jo

Now this made me think. There are quite a few people that inspired me on this creative journey of mine. Inspiration can be found in any thing or person for me at any time anywhere. But there are a few key people who stick out because they changed something inside me:

* Mariella Mosler left me absolutely speechless and stunned in '97 with her sand fields she sprinkles by hand. Her work opened my eyes to see space in a completely new way. Her amazing work touched me so deep at the 'Documenta X' that I wrote her a letter about it afterwards. She even lived in my home city! It was an absolutely unusual thing for me to do writing her, I had never done anything like it before ever. Internet didn't exist back in those days. And then in the end I never sent it I don't think. I don't remember what happened. At the art exhibition there were other artists (e.g. Jeff Wall) that had a similar impact on me.

Cindy Sherman opened my eyes to the bizarre art aspect of photography.

* Peter Lindbergh captured my heart in '99 with his pure and beautiful photography. I had the secret wish back in the day to meet him and chat with him about technical aspects, composition and light and beauty (and yes I would have loved to be a model of his).

* Bruce Mau's Incomplete Manifesto for Growth kept me inspired during my days in art school in 2000. The works of David Carson and Neville Brody trained my eye for typography and design principles and aesthetics. What a visual feast of inspiration.

* Oprah gave me huge inspiration, too in 2002 when I came to Canada. The documentaries in her magazine about self employed women gave me a huge kick start. She fed my imagination, dream and vision about what's possible on many levels.

* Julia Cameron inspired me on so many levels in 2004. She still does and I re-read her books from time to time.

I could continue this list on and on but will stop here for now so I can post this maybe I will add to it later on). So if I hosted a big Tea Party down at the Sail's Stage by the pier I would love invite you all and my guests of honour would be with me sat at the head table under the tent.

Thaks for stopping by guys!
